Is There Hope?
Through the recent events that have taken place in our world, it can sometimes feel like there is no way out. From facing a global pandemic to life changing events that may have taken place in your own personal life, is there still a sliver of hope to hold onto? If hope and peace are what you’re looking for, the Bible has answers to every challenge you will ever face. It is a guarantee; Hope is made possible and can only be found in Jesus Christ alone.
Sin Is The Problem
Before a person can receive an antidote, one must first admit that he has ingested poison that needs to be cured. In the same way, before you can receive Jesus Christ and the hope He brings, you must first admit that you need a Saviour. The Bible says in Romans 3:10, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” It doesn’t stop there. God further goes on to tell us in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” While we may all think of ourselves as fairly good people, these verses tell us that no one is good enough for heaven. Our good works do not measure up to God’s standard. All of us have sinned – all of us have made wrong choices or done wrong things that prove we are not perfect. In the eyes of a Holy and perfect God, every sin is seen as equal, no matter how big or small you may think it is.
Not only are we diagnosed with a sin problem, but our sin also comes with a high price tag. The Word of God says in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death.” Because of our sin, we receive the consequences of both physical death and spiritual death. We all know that we will eventually face physical death. But spiritual death refers to separation from God for all eternity in a place called Hell. This penalty we deserve cannot be escaped from or avoided. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Nothing we do or say can change this sobering reality each one of us face.
Jesus Is The Answer
If hope is found in Jesus Christ, how can we receive it for ourselves?
Nothing we could’ve ever done would be able to change the consequence of our sin. However, because God loves us, He created the only way for us to one day spend eternity with Him in Heaven. The rest of Romans 6:23 says, “but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 5:8 says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Through God’s Son, Jesus, we have hope!
The Bible says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Jesus Christ – in all His glory – came to earth and took on human flesh. For 33 years, He lived a sinless life yet experienced everything a normal human would have gone through. He experienced hunger, pain, grief, and everything that makes us human – yet through it all, He did not sin once. Although God could have easily created us all to love and obey Him, He instead met us in our mess and gave us the decision to choose Him. He did this by sending His only Son Jesus to die on the cross – paying for the sin of the whole world. As He hung there on the cross, you were on His mind. As He took His last breath, the weight of everyone’s past, future, and present sin were on His back. Jesus took all your blame and received the punishment we all deserved! Because He was perfect, He was the only One qualified to make the sacrifice for our sin. Three days later, Jesus rose again and defeated death once and for all! He now lives in Heaven and wants you to receive the gift that cost Him His life!
In order to receive this gift, you must place your full trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. Thankfully, God also made this simple to do. According to Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” All you need to do is ask Jesus into your heart. No religion we practice can help us deserve a better chance into entering Heaven. While you may think Christianity is just another religion to follow, the reality is that true Christianity is a real relationship with Jesus Christ.
If you’ve never asked Jesus Christ to be your personal Saviour, you can make that decision right now – no matter where you are, God promises to meet you when you call upon Him.
If you believe your sin has separated you from God and you’re willing to admit your need for a Saviour, you can receive the hope of eternal life. All you need to do is ask God for forgiveness and to make you His child.
Why not stop what you’re doing and pray something like this:
“Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that no good work of mine could save me from the consequence I deserve. I believe that You are God and that You fully paid the price for my sin. In this moment, I am asking You to be my personal Saviour. I am placing my full trust in You and want to receive Your gift of eternal life. I want the hope that only You can bring! Amen.”
Because God is perfect, He cannot lie. If you prayed that prayer from your heart just now, God promises that He will openly receive you as His child! 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” God has forgiven your sin and you’ve now begun a beautiful relationship with the One Who loves you more than anyone ever could!
